I've finally nailed these Nutella-filled choc chip cookies after tons of trial runs. They're truly wonderful! Each mouthful gives you a melty Nutella middle wrapped in soft, buttery dough. When folks discover that hidden surprise inside, their faces just light up with joy.

Why These Stand Out

These go way beyond regular choc chip cookies. I've fine-tuned this mix until it's just perfect, giving you satisfyingly chewy edges while keeping the middles super soft. That Nutella surprise transforms them from yummy to downright addictive, and they're actually pretty easy to make.

Ingredients You'll Need

  • Nutella (8 tbsp): Stick this in the freezer first—it'll change how you stuff cookies forever.
  • All-Purpose Flour (2 1/4 cups): Make sure you measure it right for the best texture.
  • Baking Soda (1 tsp): This makes them puff up nicely.
  • Unsalted Butter (1 cup/227g): Melt it and let it cool a bit before using.
  • Brown Sugar (1 cup/200g): This gives them that amazing chew factor.
  • Granulated Sugar (1/2 cup/100g): Creates those crispy edges we all love.
  • Eggs (2 large): They hold everything together perfectly.
  • Vanilla Extract (2 tsp): Go for the good stuff here, it really matters.
  • Chocolate Chips (1 1/2 cups): Try mixing different sizes for better texture.
  • Flaky Sea Salt: Just a sprinkle makes everything better.

Creating Cookie Wonders

Get Started
Your Nutella dollops should be good and frozen first, which makes handling them super easy.
Mix It Up
Blend your butter with sugars till they're smooth, then add eggs and vanilla until everything looks silky.
The Fun Part
Now comes the magic! Flatten each dough ball, pop in the Nutella, and wrap it up like a tiny gift.
Baking Time
Keep an eye on them since we want those golden edges with middles that stay a bit soft.
Last Touch
A tiny bit of sea salt on top will make all those flavors jump out at you.

Insider Tricks

I've made these so many times and learned some key things. You can't skip freezing the Nutella, it just works better. Make sure you really pinch those edges closed to avoid leaks. And using both regular and mini chips? That's how you get chocolate in literally every bite.

Storage Secrets

They'll stay awesome in a sealed container for about three days, though at my place they never stick around that long! Want to plan ahead? Just freeze your stuffed dough balls and bake them whenever—just add a few more minutes to your baking time.

Cookie Bliss

These cookies have something truly magical about them. Watching someone bite in and find that Nutella center brings so much happiness. From the chewy edges to the gooey middle, the mix of textures makes them completely unforgettable.

Custom Creations

I've tried adding crushed hazelnuts or swapping in dark chocolate chips. Once I stuffed them with peanut butter and they turned out amazing too. Think of these cookies as your starting point for whatever flavors you love most.

Perfect Moments For Serving

I always bring these when I want to impress people. They're great for gatherings, holiday cookie swaps, or just because you want something extra nice. Try eating them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top—it's absolutely divine.

Frequently Asked Questions

→ What does freezing the Nutella do?
Chilling the Nutella makes it easy to roll and pop inside the dough. Plus, it keeps the filling from oozing out while baking, leaving the centers gooey.
→ Why should I chill the dough?
A quick chill stops cookies from spreading too much and helps boost flavor. It also makes rolling the dough much easier.
→ How can I tell when these are ready?
Look for golden edges and a slightly soft center after 13-15 minutes. They’ll finish setting as they cool on the baking sheet.
→ Can I prep them in advance?
You sure can! Keep the Nutella frozen and dough chilled, then just assemble and bake when you’re ready.

Ingredients

01 1/2 teaspoon baking powder.
02 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt.
03 1/2 cup (125g) Nutella.
04 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
05 1 1/4 cup (165g) all purpose flour.
06 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
07 1 large egg.
08 1/2 cup (110g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled.
09 1/3 cup (75g) granulated sugar.
10 1 cup (180g) dark chocolate chips, save extra for the top.
11 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed.
12 Flaky sea salt for sprinkling over at the end.

Instructions

Step 01

Spoon out 8 tablespoons of Nutella onto a parchment-covered plate. Pop it into the freezer while you’re prepping the dough.

Step 02

In a small bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda until combined.

Step 03

Whisk the butter with both sugars hard for a minute or two. Crack in the egg, throw in the vanilla, and whisk another minute until smooth.

Step 04

Slowly fold the dry mixture into the wet mixture. When there’s just a little dry left, mix in the chocolate chips.

Step 05

Wrap the bowl and stick it in the fridge for 30 minutes so the dough stiffens a bit.

Step 06

Set oven to 350F. Scoop out 1/4 cup of dough per cookie, flatten it in your palm, pop in the frozen Nutella, and fold the dough around it completely. Bake for 13-15 minutes until edges are golden brown. Toss some flaky sea salt on top.

Notes

  1. Allow cookies to sit out and cool for 20 minutes before eating.
  2. The middles should still look a little soft when they’re done.
  3. Leave plenty of space between cookies on your baking tray.
