# Ingredients:

01 - Butter-flavored shortening (1/2 cup).
02 - Room temp unsalted butter (1/2 cup).
03 - Buttermilk, chilled (3 tablespoons).
04 - White vinegar (1/2 teaspoon).
05 - One large egg at room temperature.
06 - All-purpose flour (2 1/4 cups).
07 - Red liquid food coloring (2 teaspoons).
08 - 1/4 teaspoon salt.
09 - Unsweetened cocoa powder (1/4 cup).
10 - Powdered sugar, 1 cup (for dough).
11 - Powdered sugar, sifted, 1 1/2 cups (for coating).
12 - Melted unsalted butter (1/4 cup for coating).

# Instructions:

01 - Beat together shortening and butter until smooth and blended.
02 - Stir together egg, vinegar, buttermilk, vanilla, and food coloring gently.
03 - In another bowl, mix powdered sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and a pinch of salt.
04 - Slowly mix the dry into the wet ingredients until dough just comes together. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
05 - Scoop 1-tablespoon-sized balls, evenly spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake at 350°F for 12-14 minutes.
06 - Coat warm cookies in melted butter first, then roll in powdered sugar. Let them cool, then roll again in sugar for a thick coat.
